airfare penalties

Do airlines-Northwest/klm-penalize customers for not using an interim segment of an itinery. We are considering not using a segment of our ticketed flight schedule and instead flying out of another city but using the final part getting us back to the US.Anybody have any experience.

Once you miss any segment of your ticket, the airline cancels the remainder (if any), so your plan would not work.

the remainder of your ticket will be void

Hi Fred, as others have posted that won't work for you.

N/W (KLM) will cancel your segment of the trip flying back to the US.

One would think that after paying for the ticket you would have the option of driving or flying other than using something that belongs to you.Hell no one else could use it .One would think they would be happy to be informed and sell the ticket twice".Should be a law " but I am not surprised in this imperfect would.
