Air vs Rail Logistics--La Rochelle/Avignon
We are in the preliminary stage of our May 2004 vacation.
Could some one provide the possibilities of airline vs rail travel between these two places? We would prefer TGV service if possible and do not want to drive between them. Thanks! |
According to the SNCF web site, there are no direct connections between the two cities. Any train ride would require two changes; the first one in Bordeaux, and the second either in Montpellier or Nimes. Obviously not a TGV ride.

Well could be all TGV if you want to go back through Paris via direct TGV and then direct TGV from there to Avignon, may even be quicker than the more direct routes with slower and less frequent trains, but more expensive, but probably you'd want to have a France Railpass anyway. Expect about six hours via Paris, though go to www.sncf.fr web site and put in both cities and then both via Paris to find out.

you might be able tp fly from Poitiers to Avignon. The Avignon airport is small we have flown to Paris from there, but have not been to the one in Poitiers.

Ignore my reply.. I thought I was answering another question..sorry! In order to go between La Rochelle and Avignon by train, you will have to continue south to Bordeaux. From Bordeaux to Toulouse, then use regular SNCF feeder trains from Toulouse to Avignon..picturesque..but slow.. |
