Air Travel Time

You'll have to forgive my blonde-ness, but I need to know this and I'm afraid if I asked my family or friends I'd never hear the end of it... so...

I'm leaving from Newark and traveling to Ireland- Dublin to be exact- on the info for the flight it says arrival time + one day... so, at the risk of sounding like my true blonde self, I must ask, this means I leave Newark on a Wed and arrive in Dublin the next morning? Right?

janis Jun 27th, 2002 07:56 PM

I'll answer before you get flamed.

Yes, you fly overnight and land the next morning. But there is a 5 hour time difference, so it really isn't as long a flight as it seems.

Jesu.........

Maybe you shouldn't go further than Hackensack!

janis Jun 27th, 2002 08:29 PM

I warned you . . . . .

Michele Jun 27th, 2002 08:37 PM

I must say that the whole purpose of forums is so you can ask questions like this. Don't feel "blonde" at all - just be glad you don't have to flame others so you can feel better about yourself! ;-)

The cool thing is that you return home just a couple of hours after you left Europe! Only your body knows about the long flight!

Yuppers Jun 28th, 2002 02:38 AM

But what's REALLY cool is arriving home from Asia at very close to the very same day and time that you took off! :o)

bill Jun 28th, 2002 07:37 AM

As I remeber the flight time from Newark to Dublin is about 6.5 hours.

Bill

I'm very good at reading schedules...but I wish I were blonde!!!

Inky Jun 28th, 2002 07:43 AM

Even better, Peach. The wife and I once flew concorde from London to NYC and arrived before we'd left.

Ann Jun 28th, 2002 07:57 AM

Hope you're not connecting through Newark. I did that flight in April, originating in DC, and we nearly missed our connection on the way home, as it took about 90 minutes for the luggage to appear. Also, if you're flying Continental, be prepared to be squashed. They use a tiny plane with only one aisle, so there's no place to get up and stretch, or even stand for a few minutes.

Otherwise, enjoy your trip! Spending time in Ireland more than makes up for a crappy flight.

It is simple, do what I do, count on your fingers from your own time zone, stop at midnight and then start again at 1AM. You will see what time you land, and remember the day changes at midnight.

x Jun 28th, 2002 09:38 AM

well, duh, Inky, what's the news on that. Time zone diff is 5 hours. Concorde flight time is 3h.39m. But can you work it the other way?

Kathy Jun 28th, 2002 09:41 AM

INKY, you're a hoot! I'd love going somewhere and be there before I left home! Just think of the travel possibilities and not having to lose vacation time doing it! Peach, it's fun to ask these questions and get both serious AND fun responses. Love to laugh and love to travel!

Thank you, I'm really not as dumb as I sound sometimes, I am a law student... but I do have my moments- I think the studying is finally draining me... anywho I'd rather risk sounding like an idiot and double checking than being dead wrong. Thanks again.
