Air France seat sales?
 

This will be our first flight using Air France and although our travel agent is keeping an eye for us, when does Air France tend to show a seat sale? I don't want to leave the booking too long, but I am hoping to do better than $1,300 per person steerage + taxes. Air Canada will offer them in May, but we would prefer to fly AF out of Toronto. Thanks.

If you go to Travelocity.ca and do a Flexible Dates search for May, it says you can get a fare for $563 CAD plus tax on Air France.

Taken at random, May 3 - May 12 will give you a price of about $680 CAD per person total. Many other dates in May are available too.

HI--I think you should search the AF Canada website directly. I am also finding fares for dates in May that are much lower than those quoted to you by your travel agent.

Air Canada seems to be having their slightly cheaper "spring fares" now to Paris.

I was also looking for a similar flight from Toronto -> Paris in the 2nd week of May. I discovered that although both Air Canada (AC) and Air France (AF) had a similar pre-tax fare of $558, the AC website lists a full breakdown of all their taxes (final price $692), whereas the final AF price was cheaper ($675) yet doesn't list exactly what was included in the taxes. As well, the AF site states under their "pricing conditions" there may be "additional" taxes that are collected locally at the airport.

Anyone have any experience with this Air France quote, and will I end up paying more with them due to hidden fees/taxes?

I'd actually prefer to book with AF, since they have a direct flight back from Paris -> Toronto, while the AC flights has a stop over in Montreal.

I don't know if YYZ collects a tax at the gate, but that's the possibility that the Air France site is referring to. If you do have such a tax at the gate, no other ticket on any other carrier will include it either.

You can probably see a full breakdown of taxes if you track down the same fare at www.itasoftware.com . There they list the precise tax encountered at every step of the journey.
