Air France Sale for June/July travel

Air France is offering a sale to Paris and many other European cities for June/July travel. Must be booked by June 8th.

I don't get it.

It says SFO-NCE for $626 O/W.

So I try a July date and the cheapest pairs come out to over $1700 round trip.

That's about regular price, not a sale.

I'm not sure that Air France is offering the sale to Nice. And San Francisco might not be one of the U.S gateway cities that's on sale. Anyway, I'd call them directly to check.

I clicked on the link on the front page.

They list more city pairs or just different US departure points.

Even trying the city pairs listed, it's not coming close to the prices listed.

Doesn't really say what the date restrictions are though.

The advertised cheapo fare game is one that drives me crazy and convinces me to not return to a company's website.

NEW YORK - LONDON $299

But it never says when and if you start putting in dates you never find anything close. While I hate Continental, I must give them the nod for last year. They had the cheap tickets EWR to Cologne and you could actually find them easily.

Is it so hard to just put up something that actually gives dates with fares, kind of like what SW does?

Oh and before anyone has to explain how difficult it is to work with computers, I've been doing it since 1968.

The fare might be one way.

I just saw some great fares here - but you have to be ready to leave SOON!

AF's sales are rarely that great, I have found. My FF program is Flying Blue, so I always get the sale e-mails. It's quite unusual for them to give away the farm. I did catch one really great fare from them SFO-MRS, but that was in January. (KLM, now, that's another story...)

Good luck! I hope someone gets a deal.

I went in search of tickets for the end of June, returning end of July, JFK-CDG. Found nothing that I'd consider a sale, since I had been looking at other sites myself. Delta had cheaper fares for my time period.

They also have this "sale" where they give you a free night at a Novotel if you take AF005 (leave JFK 7:50am, arrive CDG 9:00pm) and return on the AF004 (leave CDG 9pm, arrive JFK 11:15pm). The rates were ridiculously high

Very poorly done overall, unless they changed things since I last looked...at 3am this morning!!!

I might try my hand at priceline. It'll be my first.

Weadles, please don't feel discouraged. Like Leely said, it might work for someone.

We will try any website for promises of cheaper fares...

Weadles,

Nothing to be sorry about. Like others have said, its basicly a crapshoot with these 'sale' notices.

And trust me, sometimes they do work. I forget who sent a heads up back in Feb about a sale on United. Well guess what, I got RT SEA-CDG for $498 this coming October.

So if you see another 'sale', please do post it. I am sure that someone here in Fodorville will benefit from it and will be grateful for you posting the info.

Thanks to everyone for the nice words! I will keep posting as I find news of so-called "sales", but it is frustrating! By the way, my own tix for Air France have DOUBLED since I bought them last January.

In March, AF had a sale -- the best part was that US Air matched it a few days later! (I'm not a USAair fan, I just live in their gateway city, so they have the vast majority of direct flights).

We were able to get tickets for about $150-$200 cheaper...

So... the moral of this story is check other airlines who fly the same routes -- they may be price matching and you may luck out.

Weadles, don't sweat it...I'm sure someone is grateful for your information.

I'd much MUCH rather see this sort of post than the ones, and I am talking about from some VERY well-known and apparently "respected" posters here who tell people to

wait for the sale that will happen......

prices ussually go down after.......

last year we flew for 4.00........
and people probably believe them and then get very disappointed when none of the stuff happens.

Those Air France and Hilton "as low as" promos are not worth the bother shopping...

One way, before taxes and fees...

Hilton - triple or more the "as low as" for your dates.

Dukey,

Thanks for the kind words. I think the only way to find a decent airfare is to find something you can almost live with, book it, and start planning the trip. There's no way to predict which way airfares will go. My own tix are now 2.5 times what I paid in January.

AF emailed me and said they're having a sale on business class tix for August travel, book by 7/13.

Fares one way under $1500, which is suppose to be 70% off.

So you click the links and they just go to their regular search page (where it defaults to economy tix searches).

You plug in August dates and select Biz class and the fares come out to over $9k from SFO.

Oh well.

I'd call AF directly. It may be that it's certain dates in August. Or it may be that just like the other announced AF sale, this one doesn't really exist.
