Air France carryon requirements

on the Air France website, their hand baggage section says as follows:

"In the cabin, you can transport 1 baggage item + 1 accessory, such as a handbag, laptop computer, or camera.
Check that:
- the total weight does not exceed 12 kg,
- the total dimensions, including wheels and handles, do not exceed 115 cm (width + length + height = 115 cm)."

Now, in your opinion, does this mean BOTH pieces together cannot exceed these weight and size requirements, or does it mean the baggage item only, and my handbag is separate?
Thanks
Deb

They are referring to the baggage item

Just don't be ridiculous with the 1 accessory

I was pretty sure it was the baggage item, but with all the new security rules, I didn't want to be surprised. My carryon is well within guidelines. My "personal" item would be classified as a large handbag size--it should be fine. Thanks!

I have seen Air France get severe when the "ladies purse" is clearly exaggerated (like with a bowling ball in it) and weigh it as well as the carry-on baggage.
