We had no problem with a 22", the dimensions just made it and AF are VERY strict on the weight and number of items you can take (2 per person). I had a Baggalini tote with some stuff in it also, and going thru security I put my purse into the Baggalini tote. Then I took it out on the airplane. We also had to take a couple of pounds out of the 22", which we also put into the tote. Baggalini bags are roomy and weigh nothing. We also had our new Restoration Travel pillows which are down and come in their own case. What a pleasure.
It's funny how some airlines are stricter than others. My son flew back from Brazil, and they let him take his beverage on board as long as he drank from the bottle first! At NYC airports they are confiscating even the tiniest lotion samples, but our friend unknowingly got a pocket knife thru security. OOPS.
I hope you have a long layover at CDG, I hear the new rules have really delayed what used to be an easy changeover.
