Air France

It all comes down to personal experience. I have not had bad experiences on Air France, so I guess I will continue to use them until I do. I enjoy the French language, music, and on my two round trip flights from Boston to Paris this year, the French movies on individual TV screens. Just hearing the announcements in French at the airport gets me in the mood. All this makes it slightly more tolerable to fly in a very cramped seat for seven hours with the person in front of me reclining into my lap.

cigalechanta, I guess we were just lucky. This year was the first time we had the individual TV screens in coach, but on each leg of both trips we had them and there was a selection of several English language movies and several French language ones.

I flew Air France last month and found it wonderful (again). The food was great and they let you have as much wine as you wanted (free).
Their attitude was very pleasant. I was flying from Paris to Istanbul, and return. Last time I flew Paris to Lisbon and return. I enjoyed my first trip so much I joined their frequent plus program.

You may want to check and see if your "Air France" flight isn't actually a code-share "Delta" flight. I flew from Atlanta to CDG in April on Air France issued tickets, but the equipment and crew were Delta. Once in Paris, my connecting flight to Rome was Air France equipment/crew. Delta charges $4.00 for wine, the wine was free on Air France.

Just got back last night on Air France....found it to be a fine experience. Best is descent complimentray champagne!! We found the food fairly good and service was very nice. Loved the personal tv sets with lots of movies, tv, and games to keep you occupied. We were very late getting in for our connection in CDG for Athens and they had a rep run us through to make it to our gate. Whew!
Have a great trip!

I notice a couple of people mentioned how shoddy their AF planes were. In fact, so was mine 4 years ago. It was an old 747 so the bathrooms needed maintenance badly and when we took off the ceiling creaked so much that I really thought that something would break off and injure the passengers. The seats were horrible for the back and my whole family and I ended up with backache after arriving in Paris after the 10 hour flight.
Two years afterwards my cousin and her husband must have had the same old 747 or one similar from the east coast to Rome because they reported the same complaints. Of course those old 747's didn't have seat back videos so we suffered with looking at the flight map as entertainment after the great movie was finished.
I guess some planes have been replaced currently. Good thing. But in all AF doesn't seem to get good reviews.

Just came back from Montecatini today - traveled Air France - Took Air France from Newark to CDG - flight was great - food was edible - no complaints - took Air France City Jet from Paris to Florence - again no complaints. Today flew from Florence to Paris and Paris to Newark - no complaints with food or service on plane - Air phones, liquor, (even games are free).MY ONLY COMPLAINT - AIR FRANCE DOES NOT ALLOW ENOUGH TIME FOR CONNECTING FLIGHTS - THEY ALLOWED 1 HR. (CDG AIRPORT IS HUGE-YOU MUST TAKE A BUS AND THE STAFF IS NOT VERY HELPFUL.) When we arrived in Florence (because we were rushed on to the plane from Paris) our luggage did not make it to Florence. We were told we would get it on Sunday afternoon. We flew Saturday evening and arrived in Florence Sunday a.m.- most of us got our luggage on Monday afternoon but 1 of our group never got her luggage until Wed. Air France had no idea where it was and were not very helpful. Our hotel staff faxe and called airports to help us. As a matter of fact, our luggage ended up in Pisa. Today, when we checked in Florence, we were only given a boarding pass for Florence and were told we had to reticket in Paris for the connecting flight. Upon arrival in Paris - by the time we got to the ticket counter - we were told the flight was closed (there were 11 of us) - Of course, after a DISCUSSION with the clerk - we were rushed down to the plane.
Again - the service on the plane, the flight, etc were GREAT - My only objection is the time between connecting flights - NOT ENOUGH TIME!!!!
I would have to think twice about flying Air France -

I just returned from my first trip using Air France. I was terrified from all the horror stories I've read - I've no doubt they are all true - but everything turned out to be fine. My tearful goodbye to my luggage, convinced that we'd never see eachother again, was all for naught : ) The flight attendants were cheerful and helpful, the food was fine (except I can't figure out why they serve yogurt with dinner!) and the seat was comfortable enough. I did have to do the mad dash for my connection though. Luckily I was forearmed by reading this board and knew that I could walk (run) instead of wait for the shuttle bus (which they lead you to believe is the only way). Molto confusion in the terminal, but the flight experience was a positive one. Bottom line: I'd fly them again.

Sorry to butt in, but can anyone tell me if bags are checked from city origin all the way thru CDG and onto other destinations (i.e. Florence, Italy)? Or, do you have to claim bags in Paris and recheck them to your final destination?

LOL Vincent, I guess it was just culture shock for me. I was heading to Italy where its a cardinal sin to have a cappucchino after dinner. But I suppose When in Rome, or should I say When in Paris... : )

I flew that route and it was with Delta due to the code share. Can't say it was good but it was better than Air France. Air France is a bad airline - tht is why the French government have to keep bailing it out. It should have gone under yuears ago as it is so bad.

I took Air France from Venice to Paris then Paris to JFK and had no problems. We only had 1 hour to make the connection in Paris and an airline rep took us to the gate. We did have to recheck our luggage at JFK for our final leg.
Off the subject - What does LOL stand for?
