Air Fare to Austria
I'm taking a trip to Vienna next yeat and am looking for the best rates.
Several sites won't quote prices because I'm not leaving until August. I'm also concerned that if I book early the ariline might not be around. The average prices are over $1,200 per ticket. any suggestions for discount fare finders? Open to all suggestions. |
Keep checking with Austrian Airlines as the time approaches. They offer some good combination air/hotel deals from time to time. Other possible good deals would also probably come from Air France and British Airways.
The airlines I named are certainly not going to disappear next year, so don't worry about that. Also, each of them has a website that will allow you to sign up to receive all their special offers. Good luck. |
Almost impossible to offer you advice, without info on what continent/country (and realistically, what city) is your origination.
And as a corollary, what currency is that "$1,200"? Best wishes, Rex |
If you're flying from the eastern USA, $1200 to Vienna is very high.
It's way too early for the airlines to drop their prices for August flights--they have 9 months to fill their planes up, and if they can get a few people to pay $1200 now that's just bonus to them. Of course, no one has a crystal ball and can guarantee what ticket prices will do--maybe oil will go to a jillion dollars a barrel next year--but the odds are you'll be able to get a better prices next year. |
Thanks for your e-mail - - but don't tell me in private (that you'll be flying from NYC)... tell everyone, publicly...
here... Anyhow, I would anticipate better prices available, if you purchase between Jan 15 and May 15. |
I didn't know your actual travel dates so I just plugged in the first Tuesday in August NYC-Vienna on Kayak.com and got $996 for Aer Lingus. That still seems high to me even in August. I think I woulld check Gate One Travel or Go-Today.com to see what kind of deals they have.

I have been told that Austrian Air will be adding a second flight from JFK to Vienna in the summer 2006.
Their current President will be leaving and a new one can have different marketing ideas. Perhaps more seats will help pricing- Wait as posted above and keep checking. |
We flew Austrian Airlines last year from St. Louis (via DC)to Vienna and paid half that ($600). I would suggest waiting a little while because that seems very, very high.
