air-conditioning needed in August?
As we are about to make reservations for a hotel room in Amsterdam, we wondered if air-conditioning is necessary for early August. We are not great sleepers and the thought of having to keep a window open and dealing with noise, etc. doesn't seem too appealing. Thanks for the insights!

Again, in the big aircon debate I can only reiterate: "If you're american, you'll need A/C." Quite easy, isn't it.
|
As a fellow light sleeper who has travelled to Amsterdam I heartily recommend Air conditioning
|
A/C is the type of thing that if you need it, you would be willing to pay three times the amount you saved by not getting it. For an August visit, it is no brainer; get it.
|
The humidity can be staggering; go for the A/C.

Especially because you mention being light sleepers and sensitive to possible street noise, I would definitely get air-con.

Hi L,
Would a room at 90 F and 80% RH make you uncomfortable? ((I)) |
Looking at the weather charts for the recent years you'll find that it most likely (>90%) will be cool to rather cold.

I don't agree with logos. We live in Belgium and we're so glad we invested a bit of money in a good working air conditioning for our bedrooms. I don't think I would have survived last summer (mainly July) without A/C.
So ... if you can get it, I would definitely take A/C. |
I recall a trip to Amsterdam in June one year where we didn't sleep for several nights because the heat was so horrible. Get AC!
