air conditioning in September in Paris
Will I need air conditioning in Paris around the middle of September? I am mainly concerned about the nights - I really mind the heat. We are considering renting an apartment for 6 days and most of the ones I was interested in don't have air conditioning.

Check historical weather patterns (you can do that on wunderground.com), but seriously, it's a crapshoot. It's 80 degrees in Dallas today and it's February! If you're worried about it, I'd go with A/C. Or buy a fan at Darty.

maybe you will and maybe you won't
seriously, no one can tell you anything other than the actual historical weather stats. It's never been that hot when I've been there in September, but there are no guarantees. The problem is that there aren't that many apts with it and you pay a premium for it. I would not worry about it in September myself if I were renting an apt. If I were staying in a hotel, I might hedge my bets and get it. For me, the hotels I like are near some major streets with a lot of traffic, so I like it for the ability to close the windows, if nothing else.
Once I was in Paris at the end of Sept and rented an apt with AC without even wanting it, it was just the location and other things I wanted. I never used it, in fact, I was cold and wanted to turn on the heat. that was a cold September, though.

I've rented apartments in Paris with air-conditioning in September (just in case we needed it) and they were all portable units which had been removed. We didn't need it but paid more and it wasn't an option anyway, although if it was unseasonably hot, I assume the agency would have re-installed the units.

September nights are cool. There may be a couple of hot days in the whole month of September but never a warm night mid-September. It's too close to the fall and it's more likely you'd want a heater than A/C. I have looked at the data for the past 10 years and night time temperatures go from 7°C/45°F to 16°C/61°F, mostly around 12°C/54°F.

We were in Paris last September from the 24th to October 4th. It was very hot during the day, close to 90F on a couple of days. Our apartment was not air-conditioned, but at night, with the windows open, we were comfortable. We were on the 4th floor with all windows opening onto a quiet courtyard. I'd guess our bedroom temperatures during the night were in the 70s.

I am always amused by the air conditioning questions on Fodors. LOL. I lived in the heart of Paris for a summer, and year round in Holland and Germany. If you need air conditioning you open the windows. In September you are more likely to have cool rain and wind. You will want heat.
