Air Berlin LAX - DUS June 09 , $826 nonstop

I found tickets for $826 roundtrip LAX-DUS in June, nonstop. It's with Air Berlin. Anyone flown on this airline before? What's your impression of the service as compared to Lufthansa, Air France, United, Continental?

Air Berlin is flying an airbus A330 on this non-stop flight.

I just realized that I could have posted my message on the Airlines forum section. Sorry.

Air Berlin is a major German Arline - I just took them from Cologne to Palma de Majorca and found them excellent.

Air Berlin is a large and reliable airline. It is absolutely okay flying with them. For long-haul flights, I would give them 3 stars (like United and Continental) while I would give 4 stars to Lufthansa (and 5 stars to Singapore or Emirates).

But they offer good value for money and the nonstop routing LAS-DUS might be attractive for you (depending on your destination in Germany).

Do you need info on Düsseldorf (I worked there for 9 years)?

I just booked them from JFK to DUS in July for 538€. Before I did I checked several sites for reviews and most were quite good (obviously some complainers). I don't expect lots of frills for that price, I just want to get there on an airline that is likely to still be flying in six months when I want to go. Air Berlin seems to be a pretty secure company, and they definitely beat other prices.

In Europe this is a major budget airline, cheap cheap no-frills budget, has now taken over the former LTU routes to DUS.

Since none of us have flown transatlantic routes with them yet, all bets are off about what those flights will be like.

In Europe I have flown short hops with Air Berlin, they were absolutely no-frills, like one time leaving two hours late out of Cologne for CDG for example, no apologies, no correct update info, boarding was a free-for-all zoo, no water or snack given while making us wait, with conflicting amateurish announcements, and nobody there on arrival to help out with anything while it was getting very late in the evening...

The only good thing - it was dirt-cheap...

So you get what you pay for, which is only fair. Hey - we may get an agreeable surprise if these new transatlantic flights actually turn out to be nice - if not, at least they are cheap.

Thanks everyone for the information.
I've been checking the online reviews of Air Berlin. $826 roundtrip from the US west coast to Duesseldorf is such a great deal. I'm planning to book my plane tickets very soon.

I've heard great things about Duesseldorf, although I've only passed by this city several times via train. There's always something new to discover every time I travel back to the old continent.

Please come back and give us a review of the airline/flight.

Will certainly do!

Düsseldorf

- has a beautiful riverwalk full of urban playfulness,
- has a charming old town with two notable baroque churches,
- has Germany's most elegant shopping street,
- has outstanding museums of modern and contemporary art,
- has an excellent zoo which is focused on animals living in or near water,
- has nearby the Neanderthal Museum with the famous bones, replicas of Neanderthal living and a state-of-the-art museum of the development of mankind.
