Air Berlin Going Out of Business
Just an FYI: Air Berlin was declared insolvent on August 15 and has just gotten a bridge loan to keep operating for a few more weeks while the company starts to sell off assets and routes. Here's a story that helps clarify when the international routes will evaporate: http://tinyurl.com/y796ymbn

Thanks for the heads up.

sounds as if the routes within Europe are not being affected (as yet)

The worst airline I have ever flown with connections at the world's worst airport, Düsseldorf!
Air Chaos! Thin |
I always noticed their unbelievably low fares, but I don't know anyone who has ever flown them. I assumed they were too good to be true. There had to be a catch.

Goodbye and Good Riddance, especially to Niki.

To be honest, I think they fell victim to the long-delayed Brandenburg Airport fiasco. Their business model assumed they'd be able to move their slots to the big, modern airport and be a hub. That's difficult with Tegel and Dusseldorf.

yes, too bad. i was up for an opportunity at the company. not really sure what other issues might have caused this, but ultimately if they couldn't get into the airport they wanted, i don't know how that was going to work.

Their fares weren't unbelievably low as far as I'm concerned, they were in line with other budget carriers, like Vueling, Easyjet, Germanwings, etc., in fact they are often not the lowest fare on the routes I've checked.
