Agriturismo Hunt: Palazzo Conti Info
 

You have all given many great ideas on agriturismos but we are coming up empty. Again.... we would like to be in the Val D'Orcia area, close enough to go into Pienza, San Quico im the evening and not get lost on the way home. We are 2 couples, and DH and I need a ground floor room. We would like a pool as well. We prefer to keep the price around 100 euros. Many places like Forte Bertusi, Le Manzinaie and Sant’Antonio will not take us for 3 days only. Terre di nano and
Le Traverse are more than we want to spend. Terrapille had a terrible review on slow trav and is a bit more than we wanted to pay.

Palazzo Conti tells us they have rooms for 70 euros. Good price, but I can't find any reviews on it. Has any one stayed here?

Am I missing another "gem"? We aren't going until June 2009, but it appears it's good we're searching now !

The only place in Umbria that I can speak to is only partially an agriturismo. That would be the Mill portion (individual apartments) of the Castello della Oscano. You can see more at www.oscano.com (don't be alarmed, a click on the Union Jack will turn it into English!).

Truly amazing food: excellent use of the goods from the farm.

It is not a true agriturismo but has many of the features.

If you are intrigued by the idea of looking further afield, I can suggest a number of agriturismo in Abruzzo where the pricing is more in your ballpark.

The reviews aren't incredibly helpful, but at least there are some (if it's the right place).

I wonder if Bob can get a more specific review of Il Poggiolo from his client?

IJ: We are looking for Tuscany not Umbria.

slangevar: Yes, this is the same place. It looks nice, but I have had places look good in pictures and then be pretty awful in reality. Hoping for a rave review from someone !

Il Poggoilo won't take reservations until March.

I have been going through the list on trip advisor and the biggest road block seems to be that we are only staying 3 days and the places require one week.

The place I suggested IS in Umbria (quite near Perugia)-I know it is not exactly what you "ordered" but I was trying to get the ball rolling and to be polite...you may also wish to note that true agriturismo are mostly weekly rentals by government mandate-they are a state-supported tourism booster with strict guidelines for their grants.

I did not realize the weekly requirement. In Umbria we are staying in Malvarina which is an agriturismo, and they are allowing us to stay for 3 nights only, as we have before. Perhaps "agriturismo" is not the term I should be using when I search. A room, with breakfast and a pool for a few days would be searched out as.......?

Fonte Bertusi does allow a stay for 3 nights- you just need to pay the nightly rate. It is more expensive though.

Palzzzo Conti looks nice and is in a good location. And the price seems very good.

i know that it's difficult when places are classified as one thing when perhaps you want another [if that makes sense].

anyway, i googled B & B in italy, and of course there are lots, but I found www.bbitaly.it/en which may jsut fit the bill, as they expect you to be booking by the night rather than week.

then there are the standard "apartment" type agencies, of which there are loads on slowtravel. some of their country places are like agritourismi, but may book by the night.

Must it be out of town or are you willing to stay in Pienza?

zoecat: I appreciate the help. LaFonte is one we are waiting to hear from. They prefer weekly stays but will try to accomodate nightly if possible, They are out until the 29th. Forte Bertuis sent me an email saying at the time of year we are requesting they will not take our 3 night stay.

kybourbon: In Pienze would probably work, but we are wanting a pool.

I am thinking of reserving at Il Poggiolo for November and there is no problem staying less than a week. The price they have quoted me is quite reasonable and the place looks fabulous. I just have too many of these to choose from and have not yet made that decision.

As to Malvarina, we did not actually stay there overnight but we did take the cooking class given by "Mamma Maria" and it was just about THE highlight of our 9 day visit to Umbria less than a year ago. I took with class with my 17 year old son and it was just the two of us. Highly recommended. The place itself also looks lovely but do plan on eating there in the evenings (food is fabulous) since the tiny winding road going up to it is quite treacherous at night!!

Flame 123: we have stayed at Malvarina twice (and got lost each time we tried to find it). We also cooked with Maria, ate our dinners there and loved it.
