Agrigento or Siracrusa

Hi,

My family and I have 2 traveling days and 3 nights in Sicily. We will be driving from Naples. Which city would be better as a home base -- Siracrusa or Agrigento? We would like to see some ancient ruins and relax on the beach, We have very little time but would like to see both cities. Ideas? THANKS!

They are opposite sides of the island. We are not beach people so you will have to get that information from another. We were enraptured by Agrigento but a little disappointed by Siracusa, but I think we are the minority. We did, however, go as close to the top of Etna as they would allow us and the amphitheater in Taormina is utterly breathtaking. Basically you can't lose.

Stay on the east side---that is a long drive.
Frankly, I would choose Taormina.

ON second thought, save yourself many hours of driving, and a ton of money, by stopping at Paestum on your way to the beach at Maratea. You will thank me later.

I almost agree with bob's suggestion, except I couldn't possibly thank anybody who suggested I miss Sicily :-)

Seriously, if you want temples, then Paestum because I don't think anything less than a week does any justice to Sicily.
