Age for booking a hotel?
 

Hi there!

Okay so this planned trip with my friend is my first time so I'm a little confused on how it works! Basically, we want to go to Vienna and we know that 16 and over can fly on their own without parental supervision. But we don't know the age requirement for booking a hotel? I'm 17 and my friend is 16. Will we be able to book a hotel on that age?

I don't think you can book a hotel if you're under 18.

Why don't you call or email a few hotels in Vienna and ask them?

your problem is that most hotels [and agencies like booking.com] require a credit card to secure the reservation.

if you have access to a credit card [eg on your parents' account] you should be able to do this, as effectively the contract will be with them. However, when you turn up, the hotel may not be happy to see that you are both so young. To avoid this, you could contact them as suggested above.

The alternative is to book hostels, which may not be so picky, and where you will find young people of your own age, and/or not to book in advance and just turn up and pay cash when you book in.

In booking with hotels.com you must agree with their terms and conditions and they specify that one must be 18 years of age. I would assume the same terms and conditions exist with most booking agencies. A hostel might an option.

I would definitely check with hotels in advance - and think you may have a better chance with small local hotels - while larger chain places are likely to have corporate policies they can do nothing about. Also make sure you have at least 2 credit cards as well as 2 debit cards (to get walking around money by pulling cash from your checking account at bank ATMs.

Separately the hotels may put larger than normal holds on your credit cards (to cover any potential damage) so be sure you have plenty of credit to cover substantially more than you plan on spending. And be prepared for them to ask for a credit or cash deposit higher than the room cost, again to cover damages and other charges, if you pay for the hotel room in cash.

Hostels typically will let you stay - but also do check with them.

Get HI/YHA membership, and use the youth hostels. Many also have double rooms.

Is there a Bed & Breakfast presence in Vienna? Might be an option.
