After Pompeii, where to stay?

After touring Pompeii all day, we will be leaving in late afternoon to drive back toward Rome in preparation for a long drive up the coast the following day. Any suggestions for a stopover on the outskirts of Naples or Rome or someplace in between (easy highway access preferred). There doesn't seem to be much info about this area.
Is there a reason...? I am concerned by what I've read/heard about off-the-beaten track around Naples and Pompeii.

Bea: I can't suggest a particular hotel, but one of the towns in the Colli Albani/Alban Hills area just south of Rome would be a nice stopover. My choice would be Frascati.

Alternatively, - convenient for the coastal highway though not for the autostrada - my choice would be the medieval hill-top seaside town of Sperlonga (about half way between Naples and Rome).

Sorrento is connected by train, door to door. Really easy!

Sorry Bea--I didn't realize you were headed in the other direction. It wouldn't make sense to take the train when you have a car!

I agree with Steve's post about the town of Frescati. We were there for an afternoon last June, and it was very pretty. We both would like to go back and spend more time there. The little town around Frescati are very quaint as well, so that would be a good base.
Have fun.
