After Hours Car Rental Return in Italy.
 

Hello.

I have been to Italy numerous times but have never rented a car there. Due to an early morning flight out of Brindisi I would have to return the car to the airport location before the office opens at 8am. There is a key drop box but I don't feel comfortable about leaving the car in the lot without a receipt stating there is no damage and a zero balance.
Any comments or suggestions?

When you take over the car tell the clerk that you will return the car before office hours. He will tell you what to do.

The last time I did that in Italy (it was in Livorno), the clerk said "Put the keys behind the sun visor and close the doors." I did so and everything was fine.

To be on the safe side take pictures of all sides of the car before you leave.

If something happens to the car after you leave it but before they log it back in, you will be held responsible. Park safely and carefully and securely.

Could you return it late the night before? The offices are probably open until 11:00p.

Thanks for the responses. I've decided to return the car the night before while the office is still open and take a taxi to the airport in the morning.
