Affordable London Accommodations

Hi Fodorites! Help me out, please? UAL efares SFO to LHR for the first week of December just dipped below $300. I would love to take advantage of this, do a little holiday shopping, take in a show, see the Christmas lights....... But hotel rates seem out of sight. I know this has been discussed to death, but my previous cheapest resort is $165/night! Anybody have any hot tips?

Priceline, priceline, priceline!

I have booked 2 different 4 star hotels in London, one for $65 and the other for $75. Do check out www.biddingfortravel.com if you decide to use it, you can look at what hotels are in what area, see reviews and see what other folks are bidding.

Grasshopper there are so many threads active on this subject because of the fare sale. In addition to Priceline look at lastminute.com, laterooms.com, smoothhound.com but Priceline is probably your best option.

Try smoothhound.com
It's a good website for affordable accomodations and they are divided by neighborhood. Photographs too.

HI
wow, what a great fare!
I just booked a trip to London myself for the first of the year, from JFK I got $319.

I researched a lot of medium-budget hotels (no more than 75 # for a single)
and I settled on the Morgan. Price includes VAT and full breakfast. If you search here or at tripadvisor or anywhere else, it gets unanimous rave reviews. No lift. 24 Bloomsbury St, no website, fax from US is 44 207 636 3045

(not same hotel as Morgan House)

Other recent candidates in that price range: Arran House http://www.london-hotel.co.uk/

St Margaret's (may already be fully booked, it was for January), www.stmargaretshotel.co.uk

Swiss House, www.swiss-hh.demon.co.uk

Euro Hotel email [email protected]

Look at Rubens at the Palace on londontown.com. d steiner just posted getting it for 84GBP/night on another string-London-too good to be true?

Thanks everyone! I guess it's an expensive hotel time. I did find Radisson Edwardian Vanderbilt for 85GBP on Londontown.com. The Rubens didn't come up. The Vanderbilt is one of my favorite splurges. Interestingly enough, my cheapo choice, the Montana, right around the corner, was more. This is cancellable too.

I know I should try Priceline, but I'm too afraid of it!

The great thing is as a premiere exec. member, I get double miles. This will earn me enough miles for a free domestic trip.
