Affordable Eating Venice,Rome,Pisa

I say eating because from the looks of things we can not afford to dine! We are taking our three college age 'children' to Italy during December. They are not employed yet so we are footing entire bill. We will be in Venice Christmas Day. We have been before but never with the dollar this weak. Any help on how to cut eating costs would be greatly appreciated. Suggestions? Thank you!

Most hotels have breakfast included--be sure yours does so.

Have your kids give up Coca Cola for the duration of the trip--it will cost as much if not more than the house wine.

At cafes, grab a sandwich to go. There's one price for standing and another for table service.

Walk a few blcoks away from any major tourists sight to find a better meal at lower prices.

Venice is easy enough. There are plenty of sidewalk cafes with great sandwiches. Stand-up bars with snacks. Pizza places. The grocery store.

Giving up cokes is a good idea I hadn't thought of. I will try the search but most restaurant reviews seemed rather expensive. I think we will go the pizza and sandwich route. Will print these and give to kids.
Thanks!

I like the cafes where the sandwiches are already made up and in glass cases. I'm guessing that would work good for kids too... so you can see what you want and point!

Thanks Suze. Does anyone know if the Cafe Breks are still in Rome and Venice? They are not fancy but my kids loved them because of the 'look and point method'!

The Brek in Venice on the Lista di Spagna is still there, but the Brek in Rome at Torre Argentina has closed and there is no other in downtown Rome.
