We really enjoyed Basil Street Hotel for a Sunday afternoon. We have done the Brown Hotel for "upper crust" tea and enjoyed it but Basil street was just quiet and food was nice. It really had a "local" theme and pleny of British character. Enjoy. Cost was low but I can't remember what. They have a website.

Last fall I read that the fine Basil Street Hotel was going to close at the end of the year. Too bad.
You could try tea at the Goring Hotel, near Buckingham Palace, or Harrods or Selfridges department stores.

Underhill,
Sorry to hear about Basil Street closing. It was really nice and seemed very "local" One old gentleman "nodding off" and a resident in the hotel arguing with the waitress as to where she could set as she should have had "first" choice. It was a lovely warm Sunday in London and the windows were open to let the spring in...wish I were there now!
