Aer Lingus or BMI
Which would you choose from LHR to Dublin and why. Thanks.

Definitely BMI. Excellent staff and service. If it is meal time they serve a full hot meal (on less that an hour flight!). It never fails to amaze me at how efficient they are. If it is not meal time you will get free beverages and snacks. You buy all that on Aer Lingus and service (if you can call it that) is very spotty. Having flown both on this route my choice is always BMI.

We flew BMI from London to Rome and return a few years ago. We really liked the service, the plane, and the sandwiches were really nice.

Never flown BMI. Booked three times with Aer Lingus, perfectly happy with the two times they actually got us there. The exception was when their employees went on strike and all the flights were cancelled - by great good fortune we found out about 5 minutes before I committed us to spending a lot of money on accommodation that we could never have reached. Aer Lingus claimed to have internet, e-mail and telephone support lines for passengers to call, but none of these worked when I tried. Getting our money back was like pulling teeth and we eventually had to get Trading Standards at our local council to deal with it. On about their fourth or fifth phone call Trading Standards got a very dismissive reply of "but we've paid the money back into their account"; when we checked with the bank the money had been paid in the same day as the phone call. Nuff said.

I took BMI two times from LHR to Stuttgart and from CDG back to LHR. Extremely satisfied with the service. I was surprised they served us hot meals on a 45 minute flight. If you have frequent flyer miles with United or US Airways (or any of the Star Alliance members), be sure to give your mileage number to BMI. You will get miles for your trip.

If it were me, I would make my choice based on flight price and which flight times suited me best.
This must be one of the shortest flights there is from LHR so all this talk about the food seems a bit pointless. It'll still be airline food and I could never pick an airline based on the food and whether there will be any or not. |

Are you a Nationalist or a Unionist? ((I)) |
I don't think that mentioning food service to be pointless. It's part of the overall airline service, don't you think?
