Aer Lingus
 

Never flown on Aer Lingus, will be flying from Lax to Shannon and return, they have 3 modified a330 air buses they use for this long haul route. Has anyone flown on this route or any long haul with Aer Lingus? I know they were having labor and finicial problems earlier in the year. Any info please, Buck

Hi Buck, I'll be leaving via this route in a few days. Will return in about approx. 2 wks. If it's not too late 4 ya I'll let you know how it went. My TA said they're fine, I like the idea of flying a shamrock plane!

I went to dublin from Chicago earlier this year.I would never fly with them again.Cramped seating ,dire food ,rude air stewards,no back of seat tv's.By the look of the plane I expected to see Biggles as the pilot.Next time I will use Virgin or BA.Hope you have better luck

We flew SFO to JFK on American, then on to Shannon on Aer Lingus. <BR>Only problem we had with Aer Lingus was at Shannon Airport on our return. They were very rigid about not allowing us to take our carry ons on board with us.<BR>(There were many empty overhead compartments so they did this to others too - this was before 9/11.)<BR>These were the same carry ons that we'd used on many other airlines without any problems whatsoever.

Just flew with Air Lingus three weeks ago....Chicago to Shannon (via Dublin)...yes, backtracking! Normally the passengers would stay on the plane in Dublin, but that day they had the Shannon people get off, wait an hour and board another plane. Never found out why, except something mechanical. Anyway...the long flight was fine, though nothing spectacular at all....Their 330 airbuses DO have TWO seats on a side which some don't and that part we liked.....The food was OK and our needs were taken care of.....but the flight was <BR>"nothing to write home about". (:&gt;) The pilots did a good job !,,,and that is what I care about !!!!!

Iam in Chicago and have flown to Shannon via Aer Lingus several times. The flights have always been pleasurable - the staff was attentive and friendly.

Hey Mariana, I had the same thing happen on April 1, only it was SNN to Chicago. The explanation was that it was time to perform maintenance on the plane. You would think they would have known this before the flight originated and used a "fresh" plane. Other than the hassle of changing planes (get off the plane ON THE TARMAC, take a bus to the terminal, show your passport at customs again, wait 45 minutes in a "lounge" with not enough seats, get shook down by the "random" search, finally get back to the same seat as before) I guess it was o.k. ;)<BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR>

I flew on Aer Lingus from Baltimore to Dublin a few years ago. I strongly recommend ordering special meals. We ordered kosher meals (not that we're kosher) and had delicious chicken for dinner and lox and bagels for breakfast. The people around us were salivating - plus we got served first.<BR>Just a thought...<BR><BR>

Aer Lingus is not much different that any other service. Flew Chicago to Shannon in March, good flight. If you compare them to American or Delta, hard to tell the difference. Some people expect to be waited on hand and foot, no airlines will do that. Expect no different treatment that anywhere else. If you are looking for gormet food, don't fly.

Wouldn't fly Aer Lingus again unless there was no other choice. Coach on American much more comfortable and service much better. Aer Lingus had that Greyhound bus look and feel, but it might have been because we were on an older plane.

I fly with Aer Lingus regularly and have never had a problem, they're not better or worse than any other airline when it comes to the aircraft itself or food (airline food is never that good) I've never found the staff to be rude in fact I've found that they've always been very helpful whenever I've had a problem. I've also flown with BA, American and Quantas on transatlantic and other routes and haven't found them to be any better.

Aer Lingus planes are rather small and cramped, and customer service is non-existant. The food is pretyt much the same as the other airlines. Unfortunately, if you want to fly direct to Ireland, your only other choices are Continental (see above), and Aeroflot, which is fine if you don't mind smoking on board. If you don't mind the hassle of flying through London (and it is a hassle), then you have your choice of airlines. The best right now are United and Virgin. BA used to be the best, but have fallen off greatly over the past five years.

I fly Aer Lingus regularly as well on the BOS-DUB route. Have never had a complaint. Service has been better than on BA, and the overall experience 100 times better than on Alitalia! Given a choice to get to Dublin, for more than just convenience of not having to go through LHR or LGW, I'd go Aer Lingus hands down, and my friends in Dublin feel the same way when flying here.

We flew the same route, LAX to DUB last summer and had no problems. We took the 5:30 pm. flight, ate dinner, put on the ear plugs and eye mask, popped a sleeping pill and woke up for breakfast flying over Ireland. Now that is what I call a great flight...Enjoy your trip

We flew air lingus last may lax to shannon. The flight was fine, food was just OK,(recommend bring something for breakfast in morning). The best was that each seat had its own tv screen and individual choices of movies to watch (about 10). I watched 4 movies(I can never sleep on a plane) the the trip was over before I knew it.
