Advocaat Recipe?
Just returned from Brugge and fell in love with the advocaat we were served with our coffee. We bought some bottled advocaat to bring back, but it's just not the same as the home made advocaat we were served. Does anyone have a recipe for advocaat that you wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks!

What IS it?

It's dutch eggnog - I believe it's mostly eggs, cognac, and sugar, but am not sure. It's served in very small portions, and it's eaten with a teaspoon! DELICIOUS.

beanweb - there are two types
1) thick - very thick, almost pudding-like and eaten with a spoon 2) export - thiner served in a glass like an aperitif. You can find recipies for both types on your browser. An excellent recipe for the "export" variety can be found on "www.webtender.com" |
Here's a recipe for Belgian advocaat: 10 eggyolks 22 tbsp sugar (450 g) 1 tbsp vanilla sugar 100 ml alcohol 96? (we can buy it in any pharmacy) 400ml unsweetened coffeemilk Beat the eggyolks with half the quantity of sugar 'au bain marie' during 5 min. with a mixer. Add the other half of the sugar, the vanilla sugar and the milk. Beat for 5 more min. Add alcohol and mix for a little while (not too long, the alcohol mustn't evaporate). Put the advocaat in a glass bottle and close immediately. Turn the bottle twice a day during 3 days. That's it. |
Alcohol 96? should read: 96 degrees! |
Thank you everyone for sharing the recipes - can't wait to try them!
