advise on hotel area (and hotel) in rome please!
 

I have all of my hotels booked and confirmed except for 6 nights in rome.
would like to stay at or under 200 usd
including breakfast and taxes. I thought
I had this solved last month when hotel canada offered a good rate, but now that I email, fax, etc. they do not respond (many
attempts for 3 days now..) what do all of
you recommend for area, ease of travel, safety, price, and quality in our rome hotel for May? I was really hoping to wrap
this planning segment up tonight or tomorrow. And still really disappointed in hotel canada's lack of timely response.
Especially since tripadvisor rated it #24,

Have you tried telephoning?

I know it's rated very well and it's clearly a nice hotel, but personally I wouldn't want to stay in that area on that side of Termini.

I have been to Rome just recently. I cannot give specific recommendations, but I think your best location is near Piazza Navona or the Pantheon. It is such a nice, walkable part of the city.

I do not think Termini is super dangerous, but I wouldn't want to stay over there on my vacation.

Try doing the search engine here, and look for the posts from the regulars to Italy, after you read a few you will know who they are. You have a good budget, you should be able to stay there on that.

I stayed at Hotel Julia and liked it very much, but I doubt it's as nice inside as Hotel Canada, although I found the location very convenient.

let me then ask you folks this...what neighborhood/hotel would you pick if you wanted to stay say, in the Latin Quarter Paris version of Rome, or the Champs d'elysses version of Rome?? I ask you this, because I have stayed in
both of these arrondisments in Paris, and enjoyed them both...maybe that could help me choose??? thanks so much, as usual!

OK, my knowledge is necessarily imperfect, but if pressed to make equivalences, I'd say that the Champs Elysées might be closest to the Spanish Steps or Via Veneto areas, and the Latin Quarter area would be closest to Campo Fiori. The Termini area would be closest to Gare du Nord.

Maybe Trastevere is closest to the Latin Quarter in terms of feel.
