Advices for 12 days
Hi everybody,
I need your help. I intend to visit Switzerland in June 2012 for 12 days. It's me, my wife and a kid (8 months old - he is not born yet!). Days 1, 2 and 3 we must be in Rapperswil-Jona (triathlon race scheduled for day 3). What to do you think we should cover, considering: a) it's our first time in Switzerland b) we have a bike and a small kid to take care of? PS 1: There's no need of great adventures, just cool places to visit. What it's that we shouldn't miss? PS 2: you can't say "don't do that!!" Thank you! |

Congarts on your visit myswitzerland.com When there last for an ultra event enjoyed the Olympic Museum close to Geneva chillon.ch gstaad.ch Interlaken and Zermatt matterhornhostel.com Take lots of time to adjust to altitude and watch out for those swiss cyclists ultramen some of the best worldwide. Especially good at mountain attacks also lake water VERY cold Wear a shortie suit to stay warm and float u better You will swim faster and be more comfortable. Congrats happy travels and pace yourself... |

It really depends what you're interesting in. There are many highlights in Switzerland...and you have one year to decide and to plan your journey. 12 days is quite enough so I believe you will be able to visit more places, certainly don't miss Zurich and Lucerne. There are plenty of hiking opportunities around Lucerne though I am not sure if you can make it with a small kid.

Qwovadis,
Thank you! The website you've told me about (myswitzerland.com) is really good. I will spend some time researching there. About the race itself, thanks for warning me, but I won't have to worry about the great swiss ciclists, because my pace is far slower than theirs: my goal is just to be able to finish the competition alive. But I'll take tour advice and practice on hills. Hanabi, Thank you! I will certainly include Zurich and Lucerne, and also Geneva, for there is a friend of ours living there. We'll probably stick to hiking small portions of trails, or even supress them at all, because of the little kid. So far, I have: - Days 1, 2 and 3 - Rapperswil-Jona (maybe also someplace close to it) - Days 4-12 - Zurich, Lucerne, some scenic train route (Jungfraujoch?), Geneva and ??? Another hints are more than welcome. |
Other good sources from the Web - www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com; www.ricksteves.com; www.seat61.com - these mainly dwell on train travel and things like Swiss Passes, the Half-fare Card, Swiss Card - but you do not indicate you are planning to travel that much so probably just by regular tickets - though with the price things are in Switzerland today a few longish train trips can make some kind of travel pass a good deal.
