Advice Requested for day trip Paris to Metz

We will be in Paris next week and are considering a day trip to Metz. Any suggestions as to organizing our trip? We want to visit the Pompidou--not particularly interested in the exhibits that are on view but want to see the architecture. Is it a waste to go to the museum if the exhibits are not of interest? Do we need to buy tix in advance? If so, can we buy them in Paris? We also want to see the church with the Chagall stained glass and just walk around the city and take in the scenery especially around the waterside. Would also want to have a nice lunch. Will be taking the TGV--although prices seem expensive. Any comments--is this a worthwhile day trip? Thanks!

I haven't been to Metz for a long time, but it's certainly a great place to visit. As far as train tickets go, they are expensive because you have waited until the last minute to buy them. There aren't any PREM fares left except for mid-afternoon trains out of Paris, so even if you hop online right now and buy, the best fares are going to be about 65-75 euro each way...and they will likely go up again before next week.

I'm not sure how you'd buy tickets for the Pompidou in Paris (other than for the Centre Pompidou that's actually in Paris), but you can buy them online: http://www.centrepompidou-metz.fr/billetterie

The Pompidou Center is right behind the train station, so that is absolutely the easiest thing to get to. No need to buy this ticket in advance -- it isn't Paris!

Have you read my two photo reports about Metz?

Thank you, Kerouac. I just read your two reports and really enjoyed them.
