Advice on Switzerland
Hi All
I took a shot at this earlier to no avail - so will try again. I want to go from Savona mid-July to Berne. I think I have found a scenic train from Locarno to Berne. At any rate, I think I would like to stay 2 or 3 days in Wengen and explore some of the surrounding country. Is this a rational plan? I have only passed through Switzerland, but this place looks unbelievable on the web. Has anyone ever stayed there or in Murren (sp?). Just need general info and any advice you care to give. Thanks.

I can't comment on the scenic train or the route you mention, but as a frequent visitor to Wengen and Murren, IMO you can't go wrong visiting the Berner Oberland. We've stayed in Bern in the past, but soon learned that we much prefer staying in the Alps, not just near them.
Both Wengen and Murren are a feast for the eyes.
Personally, I could easily spend a week in either place (or both). If you're a hiker, there are many hikes to choose from. If you're more into relaxing and soaking up the view, well, you can do plenty of that too.
You didn't ask about places to stay, but I recommend the Hotel Alpenruh in Murren and the Hotel Bellevue in Wengen.
Have a great trip.

Both Murren and Wengen have been mentioned a multitude of times on this forum. You could use the search box at the top of the page.
There also was a series of threads under "Support Group for those who love Switzerland" (Beware. This is five or more separate threads over many years and prints out to appx 100 pages).

If you're going from Locarno to the BO, take the Centovalli train that goes to Domodossola (sit on left side) for awesome scenery. Then take the train to Brig and from there, Spiez, Interlaken etc. Very scenic ride.
