Yes- parts of Skye (and other islands/NW areas) don't have many/any trees -- but the AMAZING scenery makes up for that. Like this

£35 an hour (plus presumably paying for his lunch) is not bad at all. So you are talking around £150-£200+ for most of a day. That is a lot but if you are bound and determined to not drive it would be doable.

£535 is outrageous -- I'll volunteer to fly over, rent a car and take you around for 1/3 that

As an alternative maybe contact Rabbies -- they do excellent small group tours (16 passenger vanes) but also will do custom/private tours. I'd give them a call and see if they something for you. I don't know what they charge but it is bound to be a small fraction of £535/day
