Advice on shaping Italy Itinerary

We arrive in Rome on Sept 2 thru Sept 15. I have a villa rented outside of Montepulciano and have a conference in Venice on Sept 6th. The goal was to go to Mont. immediatelly to be with my family, but now I have found this conference and plan to attend. I was thinking of Mont., Venice, back to Mont and then Rome.
Is this too much? what's the travel time like b/n Mont and Venice?
Thanks, Melrae

According to www.mappy.com, it's about 4 hours driving time from Montepulciano to Venice. You can also check it out at www.viamichelin.com.

The closest train station is, I think, Chiusi, about 30 minutes by car from Montepulciano. Travel by train from Chiusi to Venice is between 4 hours 15 minutes and 5 hours 5 minutes. You can check it out at www.trenitalia.com.
