Advice on Paris apt.
We're looking to rent an apt in Paris and came across this one. Can someone tell me if the area is good and if it looks like a good place to stay? Thanks!

area is fine..not particularly residential but close to everything. I couldnt tell from the map whether it was on St. Jacques. St. J. can have a lot of traffic but I think from the description it is on one of the upper floors. My concern is size.. imagine a room 17 x 17 ft with a double bed and a single bed in it plus space partitioned off for a kitchenette and BR..will be quite crowded but I will leave that assessment to you.

The location is fabulous - - the price is good - the size is tiny -- <b>295</b> sq ft. . . . .

How many of you will be staying there? I think it's fine for 2 people. It is a bit small, but it for sure is bigger than a hotel room! The location is great, close to lots of restaurants and walkable to many tourist sites.
The only "downside" I guess is the walk-up to 3rd floor, no TV reception, and looks like the internet access is down. But for $125/night (in USD!) it's pretty good, considering how expensive the Euro is these days! |
Thanks for the advice! It's for 2 people and we never spend time in the room, except to sleep, so the size really doesn't matter.

Looks great - please post back if you stay here. I think the price is great - it's small - but much larger than a hotel room. The location is good as well.

The area is fine. Since the space isn't a problem for you...it would be clostophobic to me...then I'd say go for it. I'm renting apartment #122 through vacationinparis.com...40 square meters and can't imagine anything smaller than that. I just received the apartment keys in the mail day before yesterday, so I'm all set. Have a great time in Paris. Happy Travels!

Deborah, can you tell me how convenient it is to the major tourist attractions? We were originally thinking of having a car, but will rent one when we leave for Amsterdam because we heard parking can be bad. Can you confirm the parking situation there? Did you like your stay?

NJ, I would rather have a root canal than a car in Paris;;)
We were very pleased with the location and the peaceful atmosphere of the apartment. Neither my friend nor myself felt any sense of claustrophobia during our stay. It is a short block to the Seine, lots of activity in the evening and one of my favorite neighborhoods. I've also stayed in the 4, 6, and 7th but prefer the 5th. We were also pleased with VIP, and will give them an A+ rating as soon as they return my damage deposit ;;) Let me know if you have specific questions because I did give VIP a couple of suggestions on how our stay could have been improved. They were very minor points. My friend and I agreed we would stay there again. The stairs to the unit is up a very narrow spiral staircase, only a problem when hauling a luggage up and down ;;) Deborah |

Yes, metro and RER are a very short walk from the apartment, metro lines #10, #4 and RER B & C.

you first need to get a basic map of Paris. You will see that this flat could not be in a more central location. There are RER and metro lines. See the "M's" in the blue circles in the map on the apartment's website -- those are Metro stations.
BTW - almost every place in all of Paris has public transport nearby . . . . . . |

Definitely not in Paris, but the same issues would apply to Amsterdam too.
