Advice on Lake Orta

Hi,

Have a few days to fill before a wedding in Lake Orta - am travelling there from Milan. Can anyone suggest somewhere picturesque worth stopping for two or three days. Preferably a romantic stop with good food!!

Thanks

We really liked the town of Orta San Giulio, and I can recommend the Hotel Orta located in the central piazza in town.

If you stay there, you absolutely MUST visit the temples of the Sacromonte, on the hill overlooking the town. They're my #1 pick for "best undiscovered gem" in all of Europe!

Here's the appropriate page from our trip report:

Thanks for that. Looks interesting indeed! Villa delle Ortensie has also been recommended???

Bob the Nav probably knows more about other accomodations there. I should point out that the Hotel Orta, while a good value, is not a luxury hotel by any means. The views are top-notch, however.

First, thanks for making me laugh when you said "a wedding IN Lake Orta." I could just picture the bride and groom up to their bouquets and boutenniere in the lake!!!

I loved visiting the island in the middle of the lake and strolling all around. And I felt that the Hotel Orta was certainly nice, though as another commented, it isn't a luxury hotel. But that view of the lake and the island, with the mountain on the other side, is really pretty. Good luck.
