Advice on itinerary

Hi All

I am planning a trip to Croatia with a couple of friends, and we have decided to do just south of Croatia due to the limited time we have. We are planning to go from 27 Jul - 2 Aug, and will travel from Split. From there, we are planning to drive straight to Dubrovnik, and drive back up to Split and stop at some places along the way. How many days are advisable for Dubrovnik? Also, since we're in the South, we would not be able to do Plitvice (is this a bad decision?), so we are planning to do Krka. Are there any other places that we should see? My friends want to Hvar, Korcula.

Thank you!

You may want to consider doing it without the car so you can take advantage of using catamarans, which can be more convenient for getting to the islands. See schedules here:

Note that accommodations can be quite scarce at this time of year, which may certainly affect you in Dubrovnik and Hvar. I would stick to one island.
I'd give Split and Dubrovnik at least day each if you are set on including each within your week.
Krka would make a nice alternative to Plitvice.

I agree with yorkshire: consider skipping the car! Explore your options for taking the bus from Split to Dubrovnik and then go via the islands on the way back (or vice versa).

I think you are wise to limit your trip to just one part of Croatia, and if that means skipping the Plitvice Lakes, well then, you skip them! The Krka National Park, and its waterfalls, are -- IMO -- surprisingly different, but also absolutely stunning and well worth seeing.

For Dubrovnik itself, most people want just a day or at most 2 -- but it depends on what YOU want to do and whether there will be cruise ships in port at the time. (Day trippers from cruises can, unfortunately, really pack the city.)

For other things to see / do -- none of us can say what YOU will want! Get a few good guidebooks, or consult them at your local library.

It is a beautiful part of the world -- enjoy!
