Advice on Day Trips from Paris This September

As a lot of you know, the trip I have planned to Paris with my mother is coming up in September. My question is somewhat misleading as we have actually planned a day trip to Versailles and we are also taking a day trip via railroad and bicycle to see Monet's Gardens and "the quaint villages of Vernon & Giverny".

Some of my friends think I missing out by not going to see castles and chateaus in the countryside. (Not including Versailles naturally) I think these two day trips are more than enough. And it was my thinking that the bike trip would be a nice way to see the countryside.

So what I am asking is this: Is there something not to be missed outside of Paris that I should have included in our trip? Suggestions and advice would be more than welcome. As always, thank you! :)

Champagne is a nice day trip.

I was in Paris for 6 days with 1 day trip to Versailles. I managed to keep very busy with staying in Paris and not seeing everything they have there. So if you really want to get out of town that's up to you. Paris has so much to see already! Don't miss Angelina's on Rue de Rivoli!

Well, sure, you aren't going to the vineyards or to Cote d'Azur, or to see the battlefields or....

You can't do it all in one trip. Those are nice daytrips to interesting and famous locations, and quite different from each other, so enjoy them. I am assuming these were planned with your mother's interests in mind? Does she have a burning desire to go see chateaux? if so, instead of Versailles or Giverny? if not, then don't fret over it.

Thanks all. I did plan these with Mom in mind but started to secondguess myself when friends were poo-pooing my plans. I think these two will be perfect.
