advice on binoculars
Hi I am going to Paris in May and I was wondering if taking binoculars are a good idea?
If so what do I look for? Not too expensive and light |
I don't think binoculars would be necessary in Paris, and would just be a burden to carry around. However, for a place like Chartres Cathedral would be useful. I'm debating whether to carry mine with me when I go this May to Normandy and end up in Chartres. I probably won't, as I hate to be bogged down with things I don't use.

Take a tiny pair of opera glasses. It will serve the same purpose and can easily slip into a pocket or purse. Taking opera glasses to Italy was the very best tip I got on Fodors when we went to Italy. So much of the art is high up and I would have missed so much of the detail. I used them every day.

Sue,
Chartres Cathedral is exactly where i am going. Going to Lourdes too |
Binoculars? Not unless you plan to birdwatch for pigeons.Opera glasses? Yes - especially for Sainte Chapelle.

Opera glasses are a very good idea mdvalenti. They are small and lightweight and there are times you will be so glad you have them with you I am sure. I forgot to take mine the last couple of times I went to Italy..I was mad at myself. We purchased ours so long ago I have no idea what they cost (bought them at a camera store) but both ones are Nikon and the one I take with me (when I remember to that is) is marked 6X18 8
Best wishes and enjoy your time in Paris! |
Hi MD,
I have a set of inexpensive opera glasses that folds up flat. This is also a good way to justify a new camera with a good zoom lens. ((I)) |
