advice needed - twickenham?????

We will be going to London in October to see the Rugby League World Cup. It is on at night and held at Twickenham. We have absolutely no idea where this is and we need to organise a hotel. Could anyone provide us with the following advice:
-is twickenham very far from london and will we be able to get to twickenham from london on the tube?
-would it be better to have a hotel in twickenham or london?
-any ideas on hotels?
thanks very much
ness

Twickenham is to the SW of London - quite far from the centre, it is not on the tube but there is a rail station (I think).

It would probably be best to stay locally - the British Tourist Authority could provide info on hotels

www.bta.org.uk

Hi Ness,

I strongly recommend that you stay in Central London as you will have much more choice for accommodation. The nearest hotels to Twickenham are in Richmond, but go for central London.

Trains (overland trains) run to Twickenham frequently from Waterloo Station and take only about 20 mins. It is then about a 10 min walk to the stadium, just follow the crowds. There are plenty of pubs in Twickenham if you fancy a pint before the game.

Mike

If you want to stay close to Twickenham, I would recommend either the Gate ot Petersham hotels in Richmond. They are both close to Richmond Park, and about 10 minutes from the stadium.

Otherwise, you can take a train from central London to Twickenham (about 30-40 minutes).

Any other questions - just ask !

Fodors

Twickenham is a pleasant residential suburb near the river in south west London, perhaps five miles from the West End. The usual way to and fro is via Waterloo main line station: Twickenham is twenty minutes by local train. A weekly season ticket with central London zones costs perhaps 36 pounds.

For a hotel list you can write to The Tourist Information Office, London Borough of Richmond, Old Town Hall, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond, England, or look up their web site and e-mail them. With their list you'll need a street map: this is on http://travel.epicurious.com/cgi-bin...cgi?link=intro

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to London

Ben Haines

Having spent last Saturday at the Challenge Cup final, whilst i have no advice to offer on Twickenham hotels, if you DO decide to stay in Twickenham or Richmond, book soon. Edinburgh was full weeks before the final and I suspect the same thing will happen here.
