Advice needed on whether to use Cash|Debit Swipe|ATM while in Europe

Generally, I use credit cards (Amex) or debit cards almost exclusively. I will use cash only for amounts less than €10/$10 and, even then, will sometimes use a credit or debit card.
I also almost never get cash in advance of arriving in a country, though I will sometimes have some change from previous trips. For example, I currently have €10 in my wallet and wouldn't blink at going to a eurozone country tomorrow without getting any extra cash.
