Advice---Milan Roadtrip to Barcelona

Dear All,

Me and my family are planning for a roadtrip from milan to barcelona in August, roughly 10-11 days. Any suggestion where to stay in between? Any good itineraries? Thanks!
(We would like to stop by Provence for the Lavender field and Nice as well)

The lavender fields are in their prime in May-June.

There is a stiff cross-border fee for cars dropped off in another country. Are you aware of this?

The Michelin Green Guide for France should give you an idea of highlights to see in France between the Italian and Spanish border. You won't have time for much more in 10 to 11 days.

Spent a nine people family holiday in wonderful Menton by the Med just over the Italian border last summer. Beautiful, laid-back and friendly, smiles on everyones faces from ages 9 to 76 for most of a whole week.

If I were traveling to Barcelona from Italy in August, I would try to avoid a coastal route if possible, simply to avoid getting stuck in endless traffic jams and the high costs of lodgings in peak season.

You are planning a road trip in the hottest month, across some of the busiest tourists areas. You must have a reason for choosing that route. What do you want to see along the way?

If there is nothing you actually wish to see or visit, it might be better to pick first the places you want to see and spend time in. Then, figure out if a road trip is even the best option.

Are you going from someplace else to Milan?
Are you returning to Milan or departing from Barcelona for home?

You have 10-11 days. Are you spending any time in Barcelona?

For any Lavender fields still in August, you will have to look carefully and plan accordingly. There is a lot more to see in Provence than the Lavender. You might want some guide books.
