A few thoughts: not sure about two nights in Ely. Why Chester and not York? Apart from York being the much better City (more historic sites etc)it is on the right side for Newcastle and can be visited either en route to Hadrians Wall or on way back to Manchester. York - Newcastle - Edinburgh are located on the East side of UK.... Chester isnt worth a detour.

stevelyon, the reason for two nights in Ely is seeing the cathedral and going to the flower festival. We want to have a full day there. I guess we could do a day trip from Much Hadham, but I think we will be ready to move on to a different location.

I would love to see York, but I'm not sure about adding it to this trip. Our plan to spend a night in Chester is to spend the last night of our trip within an hour's drive to the Manchester airport. Chester is only 60 kilometers from the airport and York is twice as far and would be too long a drive to catch a flight at 11 am.

But I am still in the planning stage for this trip and Including York is tempting. I usually try to include too many destinations so this time I am trying to split the two week trip between four places (not including the night before the airport in Chester.

Havana, Yotel pods sounds like an interesting idea. I'll have to look at their web site.

Janisj, I need to get more comfortable with Priceline. I've only booked rental cars there before, but I bet it would be a good way to get an airport hotel.
