Advice for hotels in Paris
 

Hi Everyone, As you know I am planning our family vacation to London this July. All the advice has been terrific. Now I need help for Paris. My husband just surprised me with a early Valentines gift. He is taking me to Paris for the weekend! We are leaving the weekend after Easter. My questions are...what is the weather like in Paris in April? What to wear? Also, he gave me a list of these hotels and suggested I seek advice for everyone here. So, has anyone ever stayed at the following: the Radisson SAS Hotel Champs Elysees, the Sofitel Arc de Triomphe, Hotel Napoleon or Trocadero Dokhan's-Paris Sofitel Demeure Hotel? We really want to be spoiled on this trip so a very nice hotel would be great. I think we would like to be as close to the major attractions as possible? Thank you so much for all your help. Ptm

April can either be rainy and cold or sunny and cool. I suggest bringing layers and an umbrella. I usually stay in small hotels in Paris not chain hotels so I can't comment on the ones you listed.

The Trocadero Dokhan's has been on my list for a place to stay if someone else is paying. It's smaller than the Napoleon and the Sofitel Arc de Triomphe and more charming than the SAS and Sofitel, also closer to Trocadero than to the Champs Elysees, all of which are pluses in my opinion. Is there a reason all the hotels your husband gave you are in the 16th? Depending on what your definition of "major attractions" is, you might be farther away than you'd prefer.

As for the weather, assume rain and be happy if it's nice weather.

Hi and Thank you, everyone for all the info. I think the reason my husband gave me those four hotels is first neither of us have been to Paris therefore have no idea what we are doing, secondly I think he believes they are close to the Champs de Elysees,Arc de Triomphe,Eiffel Tower etc. which are the main attractions we would like to see especially because we only have four days in Paris. I would like to do some walking/sightseeing, a little shopping and we both love to eat so restaurants are important. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. As you can tell we have no clue what we are doing so we could use all the help we can get. Thanks again....Ptm

We love the location of the Sofitel Dokhan's...it's a very attractive residential area with good shopping, cafes, and restaurants all around. Plus it's only a short walk down to the Trocadero for (arguably) the best views of the Eiffel Tower.
Since you are already considering two Sofitels, I suggest you bump the Arc de Triomphe from your list and substitute either the Sofitel Le Parc (just up the street from Dokhan's) or the Sofitel Baltimore. We usually stay at Le Parc and have always had good experiences there. Plus it has one of the most beautiful terraces in Paris, a wonderful place for breakfast or drinks if the weather cooperates (it might or might not). The Sofitel Baltimore is more modern in decor inside, but the building was designed by M. Eiffel (as in Eiffel Tower).

I just returned from Paris. I did some previewing while there. I checked out the Brighton. I am not easily impressed, but if you look at something like #314, there is a view to die for...across Tuileries with all of Paris........huge room by any standares...same for bath, which has a tub plus a walk in tiled shower.

Location: next door to Angelina's and then Le Meurice....best of restaurants in the area....
