Advice for a first time visitor to Rome
In June my 12 year old son and I will be visiting Rome. Can anyone recommend a good (not too expensive - up to EUR150 per night) hotel? I am also open to suggestions about area - central would be good as we will be doing everything on foot/public transport, and would like to be in reach of the Vatican, Villa Borghese and the archaelogically interesting areas (Colliseum, Forum etc). I would like to avoid the Termini area as it sounds a bit "exciting" for my taste! Hope you can help. Susan

I recommend the Hotel Due Torri. Try a serrch on this site to hear more about it. The staff is very friendly and the location is central and within walking distance from everything. It also has a real "Italian" feeling. There are pics of it on my websight.

http://home.earthlink.net/~richardab/Fly/Europe/Rome/Ro_Arrivals/FCO_Arrive.html

http://home.earthlink.net/~richardab

I would highly recomend staying near the Pantheon/ Piazza Navona. It is centrally located and all the major sites are an easy walk. I always stay at Hotel Navona. (hotelnavona.com ?) Double w/ bath is 115 euros. Perfect location.

Susan,
Also try the Residenza Zangrelli (spl?) its on the web site for hotel Navona, you cant' beat the price or location.
Also check out www.residenzasanpantelo.com- near Pizza Navona.
Also www.casahoward.com- just the best near Spanish Steps, if you are willing to take a room w/ shared bathroom it should be in your price range. The only draw back , they do not take credit cards.
la dolce Italy
Fluffy

Gee, Fluffy, I'm confused, because I've stayed at Casa Howard, and they have taken my credit card!

I'd recommend the Hotel San Carlo on via delle Carrozze, near the Spanish Steps. I've been there twice in the past couple of months & gotten great rooms with ensuite baths for 120 Euros per night.

Buon Viaggio,
BC
