Debora, these websites are good:

www.holland.com/us/
www.jip.org/use-it/

On the Go Holland site, there's a separate section on Rotterdam.

R'dam is not a tourist magnet. But you are very close to some great places. Delft, the Hague and Scheveningen, Haarlem (my home in Europe), and of course Amsterdam. South nearby is Antwerp (an under rated jewel), Brussels, and Bruges. To get around Rotterdam buy a used bike and sell it when you leave. Some elementary info is on my page at www.enjoy-europe.com/cds/holland.htm.
If you are interested in modern architecture, Rotterdam sounds amazing! Especially if you are a Rem Koolhaas fan. There is an article called "Rotterdam: Double Dutch" at www.travelandleisure.com (type the title into the search box and it should come up).
