Add Tuscan Town to Itinerary
I am helping out a coworker.
An anniversary trip in early October. A week and a half (give or take). The big picture is: Fly Atlanta to Venice, Two Days in Venice, Train to Lake Como, Two Days at (or in) Lake Como, Then by train to somewhere Tuscany. My coworker's idea is to avoid the hassle of major cities. So what town in Tuscany? (His wife is somewhat interested in wineries). For return flight they could go to either Venice or Florence (or even Milan). Thanks |
I would pick Lucca or Siena---both will likely be connections via Florence. If Lucca, see about flying home from Pisa, which has more flights to Intl. gateways than does Florence.

Hi D,
With 10 days, I suggest adding one more to Venice. If it is still season for Lake Como, I would add a day there, as well. For the other 4 days, I think that I would rent a car, pick a base in Chianti and daytrip to the other towns. ((I)) |
Thanks
If one was to base in Chiati. Would one town or two towns be recommended over others? |
I should have more clear. The intent is/was two full days in both Venice and Lake Como (plus travel days).
|
one town would work fine -- if they have a car, distances are relatively short and they can explore to their hearts' content. Of course if they chose to base in Siena or Lucca, they may not even need a car as they could probably arrange for tours to local towns/wineries through their hotel.

My vote goes to Siena. Many wineries in the area.

A question rather than a reply. Doble_Vergasser didn't you very recently post a great website for Mennagio on another thread?? Can't find it. Thank you.

As far as I can remember (not far) the only website that I would have posted recently is for the boat service.
http://www.navigazionelaghi.it/itali...indicecomo.htm I did palso ost some things for someone interested in hiking. Menaggio is a fine town. We visited there several times in June. Thanks everyone for your help. |
