Adare for six nts... seeking ideas for day trips from this home base.
Have prepaid for a villa in Adare Manor for six night stay late March 2014. Reality is setting in that we won't be able to see all originally planned... so would appreciate day trip ideas. Interests are natural beauty and reallly old historical sites. Nothing touristy like Bunratty. We will be in Dublin for 2 nights following the stay in Adare. Thank you! P.S. Hot tips for pubs & great music jams during early hours appreciated.

Jill,
On your other thread, Limerick, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher, Galway and Connamara are certainly doable. You could always find an inexpensive B&B to stay outside Galway for one night just not return to Adare. Look for listings in Barna or Salthill--there are hundreds.
Killarney would be a long day but if you just focused on the town, Muckross House and maybe some of the park, should be all right. Just get an early start and start back at a reasonable time, by late March the days will be a little longer. Not sure when Ireland switches to summer time.
I actually had fun at Bunratty, the re-created village was interesting and the banquet and entertainment were well-done as those things go. Probably would not have chosen to go to the banquet but I was a guest.
Tonight I'll get out my map and pinpoint some nice places on the Burren drve, some along the south coast of Galway Bay.

Cathinjoetown,
maybe we'll try the Bunratty folk park then... I've been to other recreations of working villages, so thought I'd skip Bunratty. However, now that I've made the (smart) decision to limit how far we'll reach out beyond Adare, it may be worth consideration. You and GaryinCary have suggested the B&B night near Galway ... I think I'll do that, even though have a paid lodging night in Adare. What the heck, we only live once?

Doolin has some great B&Bs and also good traditional music. You could stay there your last night before heading to Dublin. You can take a ferry to the Aran Islands and if the weather is good at least do the cliffs from the boat. Amazing views of the cliffs and puffins from the water. Clonmacnoise is well worth a stop on your way to Dublin.

Here is a recommendation for two of your days. Adare to Kemare via Killarney is about two hours. The drive south of Killarney is great, through the National Park and into the mountains is spectacular and not a hard drive, (I have done it dozens of times). Pick up the N-71 in Killarney. From Kenmare you can drive the Ring of Kerry clockwise back north to Killarney and pick up the N-21 back to Adare. The second recommendation is two Hours to Dingle and then drive the Sleahead drive around the peninsula. Be sure to drive over the Connor pass north to south and again its easy to pick up the N-21 back to Adare. Another nice day would be drive to Killarney and hike or pony cart the Gap of Dunloe and then a boat ride around the Lakes. Hope this helps
