Adaptor for camera battery charger

Can someone tell me if a standard European power adaptor (used for hair dryers, etc) works for a camera battery charger in Greece? I have a Canon Power Shot. If not, any suggestions would be great!

Hi CC. The standard adaptor should be all you need. Target, $9.99 for a pack that will serve you well anywhere in the world. They're not power converters though, however most chargers these days are 110/240, so the adaptor is all you need.

adaptor: a mechanical attachment that allows US plugs to fit into European outlets.

converter: an electronic device that steps down European 220/240V current to 110/120V for US equipment.

Chances are your Canon has an AC power supply that will accept either voltage, and therefore only an adapter is required for use in Greece. Look at the nameplate for something like Input:120-240V 50-60Hz to find out.

Hi CC,

Yes.

You need the two cylindrical prongs.

Just to make sure that others aren't misled by the way this question was asked: A "standard European power adaptor" in the true sense is just a converter for cutting the European AC voltage in half for American appliances. But the terminology can be confusing. Usually the proper terminology is a converter to reduce the voltage, and a plug adaptor to adapt for European plug types.

There are universal power adaptors that have power conversion from 240-220 to 115-110 volts AC, plus plug adaptors for all countries. That is the kind you should buy, and if you do, it will be fine for use in Greece.
