Adapter for the Netherlands and Denmark
Hi All. I have an adapter with 2 prongs and another I used in Switzerland with 3 prongs. Can either be used in Amsterdam and Copenhagen. If not, what kind do I need. The adapter is for my iphone, laptop, hairdryer, etc. Thanks.

Two round pins; the so-called "continental plug."

such as shown here
http://www.amazon.com/International-.../dp/B000TENO28 the three-pin version simply has a grounding pin |
Great, thanks so much!

Hair dryer won't work, most likely, IF it is not 220v.

The Netherlands and Denmark use the schuko. You don't say which you have. See http://tinyurl.com/2y9zvv for details. |
I suggest you pull your duplicate of this post. Two identical posts just get things so confusing around here.

Look, Spaarne, the OP's phone and laptop and more than likely the hairdryer are going to work with that "old fashioned" euro plug. I know plenty of people who use them for these things all the time and yes, we are still alive!!!
|
I live in the Netherlands and a large number of my appliances use euro plugs, not Schuko.

Thanks all for the information. Apologies for the duplicate post - I posted it under the 2 countries of travel.

You can use the 2-prong "euro plug" in all of Europe (not just the EU), excluding the UK, Ireland, Malta and Cyprus. It does not matter how the outlets look - the euro plug will fit in.
This does not say anything about if your appliances can take 240V though. Your hairdryer should be one made for intl use. Usually you find the voltage specs printed or engraved on the appliance - and the should say something like "220-250V/50-60Hz". |
P.S... I think you can disregard my last posting - and rather keep spaarne's in mind.
Most adaptors I know do not have the flat euro plugs which ensure europe-wide compatability with outlets: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europlug |
