Accomodations under $100--B & B/Apt or Hotel
 

I am in need of accomodations in both Florence and Rome (each 6 nights) close to the center of things...looking for less than $100 a night seeing as we will only be sleeping there and out the rest of the time. Something clean with a bath en suite but not anything fancy--any recommendations??

That will not be easy--maybe 100E but $100 will be very thin--I assume 2 people. Look at venere.com and select one star places--or also italyby.com

If you don't mind the possibility of a curfew you might be ble to get a room in a convent for that. But - center city in high season for 2 people - $100 is more like the cost of a hostel - not a central hotel with a private bath.

When are you going? Off season it is possible. High season, not so much.

In Florence you can get a simple private room with bath for well under $100 at the Archi Rossi. This hostel - a quiet one, in my experience - has no bar and caters to a more sedate, mostly Asian crowd. There are larger dorm rooms but doubles and triples too.

It's located very close to the station on a fairly quiet side street. It was possible to walk just about everywhere from there. I was there a couple of years ago with wife and daughter, and it was a lovely time - would definitely stay there again.

For Florence try Alloro B&B. It's halfway between the train station and Duomo.

In Rome there are many convents/monasteries with private bath in that price range. Fra Domus (has AC) is near Piazza Navona and Santa Sofia (no AC) is in the Monti district, two blocks from the Forum.

No problem. Have been investigating Rome, Florence and Venice for 5 years for our "trip of a lifetime" - 3 months in Italy. We will go in Sept so can offer websites but no first hand info.

Going to be tough to find with a private bath in the center of popular cities.

Are you traveling solo? If you're two people together I'd suggest looking into apartments. If you're just one then convents or hostels.

If you're under 30 (or possibly younger? Not sure what the age requirements are), hostels are a really good option and you can find clean, private rooms for two with a bath in many of them. The prices are really good and I've never had a bad experience in one. Good luck,

Why don't you rent an apartment, especially since you'll be staying in each place for almost a week?

I rented an apartment in Florence a few years ago for about $95/night in May (although it would be about $115 at the current exchange rate). I couldn't find it on-line today but there are plenty of sites like homelidays.com which you could check out.
