Accomodations in Spain - need your advice :)

I would love some suggestions for accomodations in the following Spanish cities:

Madrid - 2 nights
Cordoba - 1 night
Granada - 2 nights
Barcelona - 3 nights

Looking for cheap hotels, nicer hostels, with maybe a splurge in Granada or Barcelona. And preferably in the heart of the action. This will be in May for my husband and I. THANKS!!!

Cordoba: We stayed at the Hotel Los Omeyas in Cordoba in 2004 and liked it fine. It's rated #7 in TripAdvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Andalusia.html

Venere says double rooms start at €70.

We liked it fine. It has a wonderful interior courtyard our room faced on. The hotel is located on a lane that is wide enough for only one car. La Mezquite is a few hundred feet away.

I'd stay there again.

In Madrid, we have stayed multiple nights on two trips at Hotel Plaza Mayor, a few steps from the actual Plaza Mayor, easy walk to Pueta del Sol, and the tapas bars in Calle Victoria. Also a reasonable walk (maybe 10 - 15 blocks) to the royal palace in one direction, and the Prado and Thyssen Museums in the other.

Last year the rate, for a newly renovated "superior double", was less than $100 -- we thought it was a bargain.

Madrid: We stayed at the Intur Palacio San Martin Hotel. It might be above your budget now. At the time we stayed there, the rate we paid was very reasonable. It was in a good location for us, and I liked the hotel a lot. It's rated #14 in TripAdvisor.

Looks like the current going rate is $230, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a better price through the hotel or elsewhere.

We got a good rate in Cordoba at the Conquistador Hotel with Bancotel rates. You can get coupons with them through Petrabax.com or get them through Bancotel.com. We stayed at a relatively inexpensive place in Madrid we didn't like--Hotel Europa, though some people like it and ditto in Barcelona--Hotel Continental. We also stayed in another bancotel place in Granada--Gran Luna Hotel that was just o.k., not great.

Hotel Europa (you can google for their website) is about 80 a night, has a restaurant attached, elevator, and a location maybe 1/2 block from a major plaza. Excellent location for Madrid.

Nicolefla - it was two years ago, but my sister and I had the absolute best experience at the Hostal Gat Xino in Barcelona(http://www.gataccommodation.com/) - you can read my review on Tripadvisor under "slangevar".

It's really affordable, yet 100% as chic and clean as its pictures. It's also about 2 minutes walk from Las Ramblas, so it's VERY central. The location is a bit grotty outside, but they buzz you in from the front desk, and my sister and I never felt threatened at all. They also have a deal with a parking garage next door if you're driving.

They are affiliated with the Gat Raval, which you may have heard of, but I would take the Gat Xino over them any day... it's MUCH nicer, with cleaner, cooler rooms and a better breakfast.

I seriously can't recommend this place highly enough.

Check out this website for suggestions on cheap hotels. The All Spain Message Board should have hotels for all the cities you've listed.

Like you, we wanted to stay in cheap hotels. We stayed at these, they were each small, clean, and conveniently located:

Madrid: Hostal Alhambra http://www.hostalalhambra.com/

Granada: Hotel Dauro http://www.hoteles-dauro.com/ingles/...o-granada.html

Barcelona: http://www.hotelsilver.com/

You might want to look at one of the Apsis hotels in Barcelona www.apsishotels.com

The Atrium Palace may be out of your price range but the location (two blocks from the Placa Catalunya) we found to be ideal.

Their three-star property(ies) might be more of what you are looking for.
