Accomodations in Salzburg
 

I depart next month on a two-week long trip to Germany and Austria. I am looking for accomodation suggestions in Salzburg. We will have a car, so we are not limited to the city. An acqaintance recommended a hotel by the name of the "Bemerkle," located outside of Salzburg by a man-made lake. Does this name sound familiar to anyone? I am sure that I have distorted the name and I have no way of reaching the individual who recommended it, alas.

I don't know this Bemerkle.

Thank you for your recommendation. Unfortunately, there is no vacancy at the Hotel Friesacher for the time we will be spending in Salzburg.

In 2000 we drove from Germany and stayed at the Hotel Nonntal. Nonntal is a sort of neighborhood within Salzburg. It is a wonderful,small,older place with cordial hosts, had an award winning restaurant and is within walking distance of the Mozart platz. Bus 5 stops around the corner taking you near most of the major sites in and around the downtown area. At that time it was about 80.00 US for 2 people. Our stay there ( 4 nights ) was wonderful. It was easy to find WITH a city map. Do not DRIVE into downtown Salzburg!

I'll refute the advice about driving in Salzburg, unless it was intended as a plea from a Salzburger to reduce the number of cars driven by visitors into the city.

And worthwhile to make the distinction between "downtown" and "old town" (Altstadt) Salzburg. Driving into the Altstadt IS restricted to dropping off and picking up, but no reason not to make use of this privilege if you staying IN the Altstadt.

No reason to be intimidated by driving in downtown Salburg either, as I recall.

I've been to both, three times, with a car each time.

If you want to treat yourself and $ is not an object, try the Hotel Schloss Munchstein. It is an old castle-like house converted into the most charming and elegant hotel overlooking the city. It is about a 15min walk into town down the hill, or you can drive. They may even have an elevator,I'm not sure. I stayed there in 4 years ago and couldn't have been more pleased.

Having lived in Salzburg for two years, I can recommend to very nice (not fancy) pensions just on the outskirts of the city. Pension Ballwein and Pension Frauenschuh. The women that run these places are great and you can't beat the views out of your windows.

go to the website www.bobstours.com It is a wonderful site with a variety of priced accommodations I think mostly Bed and Breakfasts. Some are within the city, some outside, but usually within close walking distance to train or bus lines. We stayed at Haus Lindner, and it was wonderful. There are also some with apartments available is you need something like this. I recently returned from my first trip to Salzburg and found the city and its environs quite enchanting. Allow me to recommend an accomodation, the hotel-pension Jedermann, located an easy 15-minute walk from the Alstadt.

The Jedermann is located in a pleasant, quiet neighborhood (on Rupertgasse, about five minutes from Mirabell Gardens), and proved a refreshing refuge from the big crowds that were enjoying the annual music festival. Prices at the Jedermann are reasonable. Our room was clean and bright and overlooked a garden. I enjoyed my stay very much and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

We stayed at the Wolf-Dietrich. There is a parking garage about a block away. The restaurant there is excellent. It is close to walk to everything.,

For me it is Pension Ballwein. We ahve stayed there before and are booked in again in early October. price is great 48 euro double. Family is great. Accommodation is great. Try it!
