accomodations in Old Town Prague

We are a family of four - 2 adults, two young teens -- that will be in Prague for 3-4 days in July. We would like to rent an apartment or stay in a family friendly accomodation and I am thinking the Old Town would be the most fun for us. Any tips of if this would be the most appropriate location for us and any specific apts (one or two bedroom) or other accommodation options that are not too expensive would be great:). We would like a private bathroom.

Thanks.

Last June our family (2 adults, 2 teen boys) stayed at the Hotel Rott. Here is the website -

http://www.hotelrott.cz/index.php?lang=en

The hotel was quite nice and was beatifically located - just a quick 1 block walk to the main square and a short walk (maybe 5 minutes or less) to the Charles Bridge. Lots of shops and restaurants in the area.

Now - to be fair - I don't remember the price. But we usually look for some thing around (or preferably less than) $200 per room per night - which may be more than you want to spend.

We stayed at the U Zlute Boty in Mala Stana, we really liked the area and the hotel had character, rooms were very comfortable. Not luxurious but very pleasant, good breakfast and friendly staff. Should definitely fit your budget.

Not in Old Town, but on Kampa Island, directly under the Charles Bridge, check out Hotel Kampa Garden. They have 2 family suites at very good prices. The hotel is very nice and the location IMO can't be beat.

this website may be useful to you.Thomas will be able to give you a few options if you put a request into him.
I would second the suggestion of Kampa Island.it is a lovely area right in the heart of the city, but away from the crowds.

I agree with unclgus' suggestion. We used Tomas at Travelcook and were very happpy with his advice and his promptness in responding to email. Tomas is the one who suggested Hotel Kampa Garden and convinced us that Kampa Island was an ideal location. He was spot on. Because we booked for 7 nights, he arranged a car to meet us at the airport at no extra charge. We did not pay any higher rate for his services - in fact the rate he quoted was quite good.

Try LivingPrague.com It has tons of info from a local.

Many people like the Pension Dietzenhofer (sp?), on Mala Strana I believe. We checked it out, but it was not available for our family of four.

We chose the Pension U Lilie, which had a fantastic central location right by the bridge, restaurants, etc. But, it was a bit shabby. This was three years ago.

I think you're smart to stay in Old Town. I would not recommend Wenceslas Square area, where there are lots of apartments. We found the square to be tacky, with fast food and cheap shops. Old Town or Mala Strana are better IMHO.

Or up by the castle, if you don't mind an uphill walk, the Hotel Neruda looked very nice. It's more contemporary.

We loved wandering the charming backstreets of Prague. Have fun there!

We liked the Bishop's House in Mala Strana. It's literally 60 yards from the Charles Bridge, so it's an easy walk to Old Town. And it's also close to Kampa Island, where we had fun dining out at The Golden Scissors (it's been six years so I forgot the Czech name).

Check out Starshotelsprague.com -- they have five nice properties, all in Mala Strana and we thought Bishops' House had the best location. The Red Lion and Golden Star are near the Castle, the U Tri Capu is a new property, and the two hotel-sized properties that form The Bishop's House right across the street from each other -- Bishop's House and Bishop's House II.
